My Couture Dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Taking my time and not rushing - it is certainly paying off. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I skimmed through the course lessons so that I had an idea of what was involved before I started,

Q&A with gill10stars

KathyGM asked:
love your fabric
gill10stars answered:
Thanks - I changed my mind at the last minute and glad I did.
Julie Virginia asked:
I like your pattern choice. Which pattern did you select (company and number)?
gill10stars answered:
I am sorry to disappoint you but I drafted the pattern myself - it is a bit of a hybrid. I used the midriff band from the pattern for the course and then drafted my own bodice and skirt from a basic pattern that I have for my size.
Jackie G. asked:
I am in awe of your skill in pattern drafting and creating a fit that flatters your figure. Thank you for sharing your project. I need to get back on track.
gill10stars answered:
It's not that difficult really - I took a on day course to create a basic pattern and then use a book called Metric Pattern Cutting for Women by Winifred Aldrich. This book also takes you through the basics of getting a basic pattern block to fit you as well as showing you how to adapt for various styles. I wouldn't begin to cut fashion fabric now without doing a toile first unless it was something I had done before. Give it a try - it will save you a fortune in patterns!
