Meet Ashley and get a brief overview of all the different skirt styles that will be covered in this class. You will also see what supplies will be needed, including what type of paper to use to draft the pattern and what styles of rulers can be helpful when drawing long, curved lines. Since measurements are the basis of all pattern pieces, you will learn what measurements are needed and see how to take them. Finally, you will learn step by step how to draft an A-line skirt pattern.
Learn how to take the A-line skirt pattern drafted from your measurements and turn it into a pencil skirt. You will then see how to construct the skirt from start to finish, including how to finish the seams, add a facing, hem the lower edge, and add either a side or center-back zipper.
Discover the difference between gores and godets and understand how each is created. You will then learn what alterations are needed to make a skirt with either six or eight gores. Finally, see how to alter your initial pattern pieces to make a skirt with either six or eight godets.
See how to make alterations to your initial pattern pieces to make a tulip skirt. Next, you will also learn what the difference is between a trumpet-style skirt and a mermaid-style skirt. They can be created in entirely different ways and you will learn how to alter your pattern pieces to make both.

Description

Skirts are a staple of any wardrobe and can be worn to work, fancy gatherings and anywhere in between. In this class you will learn how to use your own measurements to draft an A-line skirt pattern. Once you have the basics, you will see how to take those same measurements and turn an A-line skirt pattern into a pencil skirt. You will then see how to construct the skirt from start to finish, including how to add a side or center-back zipper.

Next, you will learn what the difference is between a skirt with gores and a skirt with godets. After you understand the difference you will learn how to again start with the same measurements and basic pattern and make several alterations to make both a skirt with gores and a skirt with godets.

Another fun skirt variation you can make is known as a tulip skirt. This pattern again starts with the same measurements and pattern pieces, but gets the addition of several angled darts. Lastly, you will learn how to combine several of the previously learned alterations and make both a trumpet and a mermaid style skirt.
