In this lesson, we’ll cover a handful of skills and supplies that will help you design your lounge pants and discuss topics like fabric selection, pattern cutting, and waistband options.
A great way to draft your own pattern is as easy as tracing a pair of pants you already own. With just a few materials and your favorite pair of lounge pants, you’ll have a custom pattern ready in no time. Alternatively, you can download the pattern included with this class and alter it to your dimensions.
Let’s get all the finicky parts of this project out of the way. This lesson will cover the construction of your waistband, cuffs, and pockets while providing a few tips for sewing them successfully. Once these details are completed, the rest of this project is smooth sailing!
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to assemble all the pieces of your lounge pants and sew them all together. You’ll also learn how to align and finish your seams for minimal bulk, and finally, how to successfully attach a knit waistband to woven pant legs.

Nicki LaFoille has been sewing for over 20 years. After her grandmother taught her to hand sew at the tender age of 11, Nicki fell in love with the craft and went on to receive a degree in Apparel Design from Central Michigan University. She worked as Associate Editor, then freelance contributor for Sew News, Sew It All and Creative Machine Embroidery magazines and appeared as a guest on Sew It All TV. She lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with her husband, daughter and red worm colony. In addition to seamstress, she is an author of several novels and enjoys gardening and canning the bounty.
