This is an intermediate skill pattern. The ES Messenger Bag pattern does double duty. It can be made either as a regular messenger bag with or without and adjustable handle. Use heavyweight interfacing for more structured look or fusible fleece for an unstructured look. It can also be made as a diaper bag. This pattern set includes patterns for a roll up changing pad and a bib. If you're short on time for a baby gift, you could make the whole set in a weekend. The bag can be used by a man or woman depending on your fabric choices. The bag features external side pockets large enough to hold a cell phone. There are pattern pieces for pockets inside and outside the width of the bag. There is a non adjustable handle that requires no hardware as well instructions for making an adjustable handle. The ES Messenger Bag can also be a diaper bag for her or him. Instructions include making a barrier layer to keep it leak resistant. Depending on your fabric choice, the bag will be manly enough for dad to carry. There are pattern pieces for all three items. For those that prefer to cut by dimension, cutting dimensions are given for most of the bag. If you choose to use the cutting chart, you will only need to use two pattern pieces to make the bag. For a structured bag, use heavyweight interfacing. For a soft bag, choose lighter interfacing or fusible fleece. Instructions include lengthening the non-adjustable handle to make a cross-body strap. The the finished width of the bag is 13.5", the height is 10" and depth 3.75". Each step is illustrated for you. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Beginners should not use heavy weight interfacing as it takes more effort to sew the corners.
