Study in Pastel #1

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Experimenting and learning! Some things I tried are successful; others not that great. Since there are no mistakes it all comes together. My regret is that after I finished the handwork I had a freak accident that injured my index finger. It will be a month or two before I can do any handwork. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Have fun! Ask what if? and go for it. There really are no mistakes!

What you will need

  • Cotton batik
  • various yarns and threads
  • fusible fleece
  • wonder under

Q&A with Joanna Strohn

JDT asked:
JDT Love the flow of colors, shapes and textures in your study! Do you use hand dyed fabrics?
Joanna Strohn answered:
Not yet. I just took a workshop with Sherrill Kahn and am enthusiastic about starting to dye and paint again. That needs to wait while a finger injury heals. Hoping to have a day in the studio this weekend!
Dede E asked:
Beautiful! Did you have any difficulty with couching the eyelash yarn?
Joanna Strohn answered:
Not really. If you look closely you'll see that I stitched at the top (corded) edge. I tried to use my fingers to keep the eyelashes flattened as I stitched. I really like this yarn!
