Single Bed Fish Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? This is the flatest quilt I have made yet and the most intensely quilted - also the first time I have used free-motion quilting (the sea - just wavy lines - but I think the effect worked well on this quilt). The fish use different coloured thread for each fish colour. As per Mr Butlers Quiltcon lecture I have included some cats in the main photo. What advice would you give someone starting this project? This quilt required alot of planning as the heads and tails are sewn into strips and have to match up with bodies and tails of neighbouring fish. Make a plan of colours first then photocopy your paper pieces and colour them as per your plan - then make the pieces ensuring you follow your colour plan. Work out your fabric - be generous there is a lot of wastage if you are strip piecing this quilt.

What you will need

  • Quilting cotton and cotton batting

Q&A with zinc6

quilt-a-lot asked:
So very clever! You have done a masterful job of getting this pattern right and it just looks wonderful. Great FMQing too. I'm sure your nephew is loving it
zinc6 answered:
Thanks quilt a lot - the RMQ is not very good but it did inspire me to learn to do it and enroll in a class to help me. My nephew does love the quilt - he pretends to swim on it with the fish.
