Prince Quilt

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Rush Quilt Link to website or photo What are you most proud of? I wasn't sure I was liking the background combination with the purple, and the light purple reading as pink at first, but I grew to really like the end product. I try to challenge myself with each new project, so I am happy that I pushed myself to finish the binding by hand, and forcing myself to use the whipstitch all the way around. I think it looks pretty good. Also, there were a LOT of small pieces, so I really had to focus on making sure the final measurements were exact, because a lot of points and squares had to match up. I think I did that pretty well, too. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Plan your colors, plan the cutting and sewing stages. Have lots of room to spread out - I used 5 different purples and 4 different black and white prints, and was using them all at the same time, so I had two folding picnic tables just full of strips of fabric. LOL Follow the directions on the excellent, excellent tutorial, mentioned above. Have patience, perseverence, and as always, enjoy what you do. It is a pretty easy project, but I gave it a higher difficulty level only because of the attention to detail you have to have because there is a lot of cutting and sewing and cutting and sewing - it's pretty involved and a little time consuming, but not really hard.

What you will need

  • Cotton Quilting Fabric in assorted black and white
  • and different purples; polyester batting.

PapaDoc asked:
I have a question. Are the letters "P-r-i-n-c-e" pieced or appliqued? Do you have a tutorial on how to do it?
QuiltDude answered:
Hi, PapaDoc. Prince is the best, isn't he? The name is pieces, and I don't have tutorial. What I do is grab grid paper, and just draw the letters until I like what I see. I usually make the small letters 5 squares high by 4 across, and the capital letters are 7 squares high by 4 across, then I decide if one square is going to be 1 inch, or 2 inches, or 3 inches, and then start cutting strips, then sub cut the strips as each letter requires. Hope I didn't confuse you too much.
