Jelly Roll Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Th tricky part of this quilt was putting the front and back panels together so the strips were aligned precisely otherwise the quilting stitching would be skewed - it took a couple attempts at pinning the front and back together before I got the strips aligned the way I wanted them. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Quilting this quilt would have been easy had I used a single piece of fabric on the back - I originally tried using decorative stitching along the background strips, but I didn't like how it looked on the stripes on the back so I took it out and just stitched in the ditch along the strips edges.

What you will need

  • I had a set of Tonga Treat-strips: Java Jungle in shades from ink (dark navy) to air (off white). The background is a small patterned beige quilting cotton.

creativel1188847 asked:
is there a pattern for this quilt?
jmn111 answered:
No, I just used ~20 strips from a jelly roll, cut the strips to different lengths (keeping leftovers either to use for the reverse or for something else). Then I cut 2 1/2" white cotton strips and attached to the jelly roll pieces, trimmed pieced strip to 44" (can be whatever length you want but the interleaving solid strips were going to be WOF - I cut them 1 1/2" wide - top and bottom solid strips were 2 1/2" wide. That's the "pattern".
