Pattern Details

This quilt was designed as the learning project for participants of my "Starting from Scratch" class. It features the classic disappearing 9-patch block, only a few different fabrics and very easy construction. It makes a rewarding first quilt, a confidence-builder for improving beginners, and the experienced quilter will find Murphy's Corner to be a quick and sweet "palette cleanser" between more difficult projects. FINISHED SIZE: 51" X 64" Enjoy making and using your Murphy's Corner Lap Quilt!

Recommended with this pattern

  • Just the usual quilting supplies. New needle in your machine, and new blade in your rotary cutter.

My mother taught me to sew when I was 8 - doll clothes by hand, then she moved me on to her old Singer. But it was Home Ec in Jr. High where I discovered that sewing was my "thing.". Throughout the years, I sewed clothing and made pillows and curtains and stuff. But quilting? Just the thought of cutting a beautiful piece of fabric into little pieces and sewing them together again seemed a little crazy to me. But when my first great-niece was born, I made my first quilt for her and was hooked! As a new quilter, I couldn't find designs that were easy enough, so, I got design software and started tinkering. Now that I am retired, my life is all about my DH and quilting. Thanks to Craftsy, I am able to share my designs and patterns with you. In addition to quilt designing, I stay busy in my guild, and have a quilting business: Quiltniques! My beloved longarm is named Margie and she works hard.
