How it works

Large stylized hearts and small ones create chains of love across the surface of this sweet little baby quilt. Nice to cuddle in or use it as a wall hanging. Two different basic blocks (Heart and Heart Chain) were carefully designed and colored to float on a light background print. I used pink polka dots on white, but a pastel tone-on-tone print or one with a small motif would work, too. Piecing has been arranged so that you can chain-piece the required units wherever possible. The 12-page pattern includes colorful step-by-step illustrations. Make more blocks and you can increase this design to any size you want. NOTE: This is rated intermediate, but a confident beginner who has perfected the 1/4" seam could make it too. Accuracy it the key when blocks have lots of seams! You can use scraps for the small hearts if you wish, making each heart a different color. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Basic sewing and quilting skills

Recommended with this pattern

  • 3/8 yard pink print for blocks
  • Scraps or 1/6 yard purple pint for blocks
  • Scraps or 1/8 yard yellow print for blocks

I am a published sewing and quilting author with several books and many magazine articles to my credit. My most recent book, How to Make a Quilt, was published in August 2014 by Storey Publishing. I've written two other successful books for them-- The Quilting Answer Book and The Sewing Answer Book. I learned to sew from my great grandmother, two grandmothers, and my Mom when I was barely in grade school and I've been sewing ever since. I added quilting to my repertoire in the 1980s and worked for a major quilt book publisher as Managing Editor and then Editor-in-Chief for 5 years. Now I have my own business, designing quilts and tote bags and anything else that strikes my fancy. Go to to see my projects and whatever else I'm up to. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find something you'd like to make in my Craftsy store!
