Project

Pippen

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I helped with 2nd grade reading groups last year. The last week of school, the teacher was out on reading day. There were 3 boys who were very wriggly and they were not letting the rest of the group read. I finally brought Pippen out and let the boys know that if they could be very quiet, they could puppet-sit. Two minutes later, one of the boys came tiptoeing over to me. He had a book under his arm and he whispered to me: "If we promise to be very, very quiet, can we read to him?" They had propped Pippen up against a bookshelf and they were taking turns reading. Wow. Puppets are magical! Oh... and I like his red converse high tops. What advice would you give someone starting this project? The puppets aren't easy, but they are much easier to make than to string and figure out the controls. There are many, many hours in this puppet and I still don't have everything right. It's definitely a work in progress.
