Pattern Details

I think Vespa scooters are iconic, and really, really cute and sexy. All those curves! I was spurred on to write this pattern by being told I could not possibly knit a Vespa. You might say pig-headed, I would say determined. So I would probably call this knit an ornament, rather than a toy. (I would quite like to display my knitted scooters under glass domes.) What I love is all the colours that Vespa scooters come in. You really could knit this in any colour and not be wrong. The structure of the body is made by using a bit of card in the the front panel and base. There is a template for this in the pattern. The pattern is 14 pages long, and jam-packed with photos to help with the construction. You will need approx 16g of doubleknit wool in the main shade, and much smaller amounts of white, grey and black. The knitting of the individual parts is not too hard, but this is not the pattern for you, unless you enjoy sewing up. The finished scooter is approx 12cm long and 11cm tall. You can read a bit more about this pattern on my blog at

The inspiration for my knitting patterns often comes from nature. I love little knitting projects, and try my hardest to be realistic with my plant and animal designs. Often my projects start from something very personal: my own house or my husband's first car. Then I develop them into something that I think will be appealing. I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school. My own children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
