Here is a great project that knits up quickly and makes a great gift, too. This moebius scarf or wrap is a continuous one-sided surface that is formed from a rectangular piece of knitting. It is simply a loop with a half twist that will rest comfortably folded about your head or neck. The reversible eyelet cable-look stitch pattern gives a soft contour. Best of all, you can use different weights of yarn and make to any size without a lot of pre-planning. Two options are given for joining: step-by-step grafting in pattern to produce an entirely invisible seam, or an easier 3-needle bind off method that would also be preferred if you use a heavily textured yarns such a boucle. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit, purl, yarn over GAUGE finer thickness - e.g. fingering weight 6.5 - 7.5 sts/inch on US 4, 5 or 6 needles medium thickness - e.g. sport weight 5 - 6 sts/inch on US 7 or 9 needles bulkier thickness - e.g. bulky, worsted weight 4 - 4.5 sts/inch on US 9 or 10 needles SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Can be made to any size. Guidelines given for 32" and 40" loops using fine, medium thickness and bulky yarns

Recommended with this pattern

  • As a rule of thumb, plan for 3 - 50g balls in sport to bulky weights, 2 - 50g balls in finer weights.
  • More specific yardage and gauge guidelines for popular yarn weights and scarf sizes are included in the pattern instructions.
  • 2 - 3 yards of smooth, firmly twisted yarn in contrast color for the provisional cast on. This yarn is only temporary, and is used to begin the cast on in such a way that the loops are left without a bound edge to be picked up later for joining the rectangle into a loop. This can be any extra thread or yarn you have on hand of about the same thickness as the yarn you are using for your scarf.
