Want to give him a scarf he'll actually wear? Make him a Scotch and Soda, a single malt scarf with cabled bubbles! An isolated honeycomb cable that is repeated on a stockinette stitch background creates the illusion of freeform bubbles. Narrow ribbing at sides and edges frames the scarf; selvedges keep edges nice and tidy. Although this scarf was initially designed for that special man, it is drop-dead gorgeous in fuschia or coral. Embellish each bubble with a bobble (try saying that three times fast!) or even sequins for a uniquely feminine look. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY basic cabling GAUGE 20 sts and 26 rows = 4" in Stockinette Stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Approx. 58" x 6" wide

Supplies Needed

  • 288 yds worsted weight yarn

The fiber obsession began at six years old, and my first original design was the infamous Barbie tube top. Since Barbie wasn’t paying me a living wage to keep her stylishly dressed, I ended up going to college, knitting feverishly throughout my education to maintain my sanity. I quit my day job at the phone company when I discovered that real people actually liked what I made, and have been designing ever since. I have co-authored two books: The Knitter’s Guide to Yarn Cocktails and The Crocheter’s Guide to Yarn Cocktails. I have designed for several major yarn companies and contributed to various magazines, books, and other publications .
