I have a scallop shell which sits on a shelf in my bathroom. I thought it would be interesting to try to design a pattern for this type of shell, which would not only have its curve, but also the ridges of the shell would increase in size. I researched lots of pictures of scallop shells on the internet, and realized that some also have horizontal stripes, so also wanted to add this option to my pattern. I am really pleased with the pattern, with which I think you can knit a really realistic looking shell. But what to do with your scallop? Well if you knit one side of the shell, my pattern gives you a great tip to make it more rigid, to use as a little dish. Two shells sewn together make a great toy, or decoration. I did think they would be lovely as lavender bags. Hubby suggested they could be fashioned into a bikini, but I have put that idea to one side!!! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knitting

The inspiration for my knitting patterns often comes from nature. I love little knitting projects, and try my hardest to be realistic with my plant and animal designs. Often my projects start from something very personal: my own house or my husband's first car. Then I develop them into something that I think will be appealing. I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school. My own children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
