I was asked to make a pattern for a sand dollar Christmas decoration. You can read the whole story on my blog. I had not heard of sand dollars, but I am now slightly obsessed by them. I have tried to make them look realistic, and used natural shade. I am going to recommend a wool, which I enjoyed knitting mine in, but any light beige would look good - 4ply or DK. Or you could jazz them up a bit if you were making them as a Christmas ornament. The inspiration for my knitting patterns often comes from nature. I love little knitting projects, and try my hardest to be realistic with my plant and animal designs. Often my projects start from something very personal: my own house or my husband's first car. Then I develop them into something that I think will be appealing. I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school. My own children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
