This poncho is made using the Delta Technique, which produces the Flower of Life pattern. With this technique, there are a couple little 'tricks' that are absolutely critical in producing (flower) 'petals' that hold together and are spaced properly. This pattern includes very detailed instructions and step-by-step, petal by petal, round by round, illustrations that make it very easy to learn! Poncho is worked in rounds, beginning at neckline. Hood is then worked directly onto the poncho. The child's version was made using a single strand of Worsted Weight yarn; the adult's using a Sport Weight yarn double stranded. For best results, it is strongly recommended that you use either a thick-and-thin yarn or a combination of plain and novelty yarn to obtain that thick-and-thin texture. It makes a huge difference in helping the parts of the petals 'lock' together to create a more solid petal. The (optional) chiffon fringes are fun - most fabric stores carry a wide assortment of chiffon colors and you simply snip and rip the chiffon to create the fringes (they fray naturally). Using multiple colors of fringe can be very pretty. In the samples shown, Moda-Dea #3502 was used for the child's version (worked single stranded) and Cascade Pearls #8990 for the adult version (worked double stranded) BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Although made using a technique that may be new to you, this involves only basic stitches and is very clearly described and illustrated.
