Getting the swirl of the fondant colors to work well from the first tier to the second. With needing to mix several pieces of fondant together just right, I was a little concerned that the two tiers wouldn't mix properly enough to go together-but it worked! Took a little time (I over worked the first batch of fondant and they ended up mixing into a big green blob-but you live and learn) What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take the time out while the cake is in the oven to mix together the different fondant sections. I used several colors and it took a while to get everything laid out and ready to go, but just make sure to make large enough sections to to how wver many tiers you are trying to cover and ALWAYS take into account the possibilities that you may over work/mix the fondant and will need to start all over. I lucked out and made each fondant section large enough to have plenty left over when I messed up my first try. prep is the key - set out your icing gel colors and bowls up front so that you can mix the colors into the batter as quickly as possible before popping them into the oven. I used my cupcake scooper to evenly drop in the different colors of batter into my pans. I basically scooped each color into each pan, then moved onto another color, and so on until all the pans had been filled. I took a bamboo stick to swirl it around a little before baking. Good Luck!
