Vintage inspired Tessuti Couture Dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Winning 3rd place in the Tessuti Awards! I spent many hours working on this dress. I'm proud to have designed, drafted, fitted and handmade my first couture dress. I spent over 100 hours making it, including three toiles and four fittings. I meticulously hand stitched elements of it for a couture result. It is worth every stitch and time taken. I can't wait to make this dress again for a client. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take the time to plan out your couture project. Make up to three or four toiles if you need to and fit it carefully each time. Use good quality fabrics, avoid steaming taffeta if your iron drips as it will stain. Use removable chalk powder and hole punch you pattern to transfer the markings with a pounce, then thread trace all seams. Waxed transfer papers will not come out of your cloth. Always use a pressing cloth for pressing, silk organza is fabulous!
