Project

Two-toned leather tote bag

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I was able to fit the pattern pieces from the re-purposed leather pieces. I designed it to have front and back pockets due to the limited material and piped the front pocket to distinguish it easily from the back. I'm also proud that my seams match and that I was able to sew my seams without too much stretch since I didn't have the cold rubber tape. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I did not make the wool felt sample :( but I did review the entire course once quickly before I attempted to make the bag and follow Don step by step. If you are using brand new skins ($$) you might want to do the wool felt sample first. I took the chance because I had sewn a leather purse before.

What you will need

  • Leather re-purposed from two coats for main bag. Lining is a woven cotton.

Thanks Glenna. I enjoyed making it.
GloriaD asked:
The bag is gorgeous! I like that the front pocket has the contrasting binding at the top and the back pocket does not. The lining is beautiful. Excellent job!
Boogzb answered:
Thanks Gloria. I thought the contrast on the front pocket made it easy to tell the front from the back of the bag.

I love the colors. It is a beautiful tote bag. I am currently working on one, but life gets in the way sometimes and I hope to have it done by soon.
Boogzb answered:
Thank you. I look forward to seeing your purse soon. I know what you mean about life getting in the way; sometimes I'm up sewing at 2am when my husband's asleep.
Creativewan asked:
If I didn't know it already, I would have thought this purse was store-bought, not home-made! I mean that as a complement to you! Great job on matching the seams, and the fabric for the interior is matches perfectly with the purse. Kudos to you Boogzb! :D
Boogzb answered:
Thank you so much for your compliments. It's fun trying to find just the right fabrics for lining.
