Project

The Courture Dress - My First Dress!

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I'll be most proud of finishing the project and actually wearing the dress! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take your time, don't be afraid to repeat steps. Take advantage of the platform - I found Susan and others taking the class to be extremely responsive and helpful. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

What you will need

  • Navy cotton pique for the dress
  • silk organza underlining and 'majestic purple' silk crepe de chine for the lining.

Q&A with Raincloud

Julie Eilber asked:
The fit looks really good! Having spent most of the summer working on my project for the class, my only note would be that by the time you've spent all the hours constructing the dress, and putting the silk organza and crepe de chine in there, you may end up wishing you had used something a little more luxurious than the cotton pique for the fashion fabric. Maybe use a silk, linen or light wool crepe?
Raincloud answered:
Thanks tvjulie! I know, I've gone back and forth about the fashion fabric and the lining. . .this is my first real garment construction project, so I was trying to be conservative with the materials, but I think I may reassess.
LakeWylieMom asked:
I like the loose skirt.
Raincloud answered:
Thanks! Me too.
Karen Emelia asked:
Very nice muslin! I like the full skirt.
Raincloud answered:
Thank you! i like the full skirt too - it feels very feminine.
Karen Emelia asked:
I noticed that we both made the same adjustment to the bodice in the front and back. I like it!
Raincloud answered:
Me too! After hand basting I briefly questioned taking out the princess seams in the midriff (maybe they would have made my short waist look longer!) but I decided I like it the way it is. I'm hoping for that "your waist is so small" look! :)
Screaming Mimi asked:
It's coming along very nicely...that's going to be lovely.
Raincloud answered:
Thank you! I'm having so much fun it's hard for me to actually work rather than sew.
