Practice Coat for work

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That the final product tho not perfect is wearable and fits me properly - and the beinging of learnig tailoring skills. The invisible pockets and the bound buttonholes, which took a day to make but I'm really pleased with them. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Choose the right fabric - this was not the right fabric at all as it was too thin and too tightly woven for making a coat. My attempt to make it "thicker" by underlining in flannellette resulted in areas with a lot of curve (collar and cuffs) forming sharp folds rather than a smooth curve. Take your time and make a muslin first to ensure a good fit - it's alot of work to produce a coat and is a waste if you cannot use the final garment.

What you will need

  • Medium weight cashmere poly suiting
  • cotton flannelette
  • silk dobby
  • hair canvas
  • sew in interfacing.
