Pieced Box Bag

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The application of the zip and how the haphazard method of piecing resulted in a reasonable result. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Decide on whether you want to use you Serger or Sewing Machine. I found my Janaome 744D wasn't powerful enough and didn't have the correct foot to make this project adequately. I've decided to keep my lovely Serger for projects without this amount of bulk. Be careful. Plan each step; cut accurately and approach with confidence.

What you will need

  • 100% Cotton - scrappy to provide the amount of fabric required.

Q&A with Malcolm McKay

HellyH asked:
You've ended up with a lovely bag. I found my serger didn't do very well and tend to use it for finishing seams and hems when dress making which is a shame but my Janome 7700 does everythingelse so I tend to use that.
Malcolm McKay answered:
Yeah - my 6600 is marvellous. Will sew through anything though I do sometimes have problems with the bobbin thread knotting up when I sew thick areas of a seam.
Pohutukawa asked:
What a great project, love the colours and the piecing, well done.
Malcolm McKay answered:
Thank you indeed
Amy Alan asked:
I really do love the piecing on your bags- especially the blue line that meets up at the zipper tabs.
Malcolm McKay answered:
Thank you Amy - I'm so complimented.
