Project

Infant summer ensemble

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I love the little 'scalloped' couture detailing on the skirt and bloomers. This particular detail was on a little white organdy dress I had when I was very little (in 1941). The original detail had hand embroidered scallops on the piece. I used the embroidery option on my Bernina. However, the details were all hand applied for a true heirloom look. The lined bodice gives a couture feel to the garment and provides a soft and smooth interior to be next to young skin. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Think out of the box, and have fun creating new and one-of-a-kind creations.

What you will need

  • Embroidered batiste remnants from a dress my mother made for herself in the 1970's
  • blue batiste.

Q&A with dottyeb

Ipanema asked:
Absolutely adorable. I love your "vintage" stories and the way you include vintage pieces and techniques in your classic creations.
dottyeb answered:
Thank you so very much. Hopefully I can inspire young seamstresses to do more than just ''follow the drections in the pattern.' I love sharing what I have learned over my 71 year.
