Project

first muslin

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I was always under the impression that my elbows "marked" my waist (parallel to the floor) - which makes my waist high . Once I tried to fit the waist with the high measurement - it wouldn't work. Man, if I couldn't fit the waist how was I going to fit the rest??? I re-measured my waist according to the class and got a very different measurement. The elbow/waist measurement is 29 1/2 and the CORRECT measurement is 32.5 - ish. I do not like to wear anything at the elbow/waist area - My pants/shorts/bottoms always end up sitting low in the front and higher in the back. For alterations so far - I brought the front of the pants up 1/2 inch - and need to pinch out some fabric in the front/crotch rise-vertical or horizontal??? I'd like to lower the back some too - haven't done that yet. The pants need to be taken in - do I take in the pants on the side and fronts to keep the lines where they are supposed to be. Will taking in on the sides take care of the extra fabric under my butt?? BTW - love the class Sandra - thank you for sharing the passion we all feel for sewing!! Judy

Q&A with BossHossVoss

BossHossVoss asked:
I am getting ready to work on the second muslin - I am pinching out 5/8 of an inch from the front - I'll have to show a picture of that one - raising the crotch in the front and back by 5/8 -3/4". I am also going to take in the side seam from above the knee down to the floor. Also shortening the length. I'm taking my time with this and really want it to work out!! I like the feel of the pant and have HIGH hopes!!
BossHossVoss answered:
Hi Scheri -!! I did see that Sandra is out of the country but that is not what I am waiting for - I bought so much fabric recently that I quickly cut out a bunch of easy pieces to make. 2 cardigans, 1 long sleeved t-shirt and a pair of knit slacks. I am also starting to make some Christmas gifts - mostly fleece socks - I might give one of the cardigans as a gift. I have some pictures to post with the above alterations but have not applied them to the pattern yet. Don't know whether I should trace the pattern now and make the adjustments.
So Sew Easy asked:
I've signed up for the course - just waiting for my pattern to arrive. Have never sewn pants, but really do need some that fit - and shorts too. Do keep us updated with your fitting progress.
BossHossVoss answered:
Hey Deby - checked out your wares on Etsy - very cool.
nancykarp456191 asked:
I'd be careful about taking in the outseam from the knee down. It's already starting to catch on your calf in back. These look pretty good already. I look forward to seeing the finished pant
BossHossVoss answered:
I agree - the calf does feel tight - I'm going to have to watch that part of the video again to see what the adjustment is. Sandra does bring this up a few times. Thanks Nancy!!
Sewing 4home asked:
can anyone tell me what to do I made a pair of slacks they lool really nice but I feel a strain in the legs when I walk
BossHossVoss answered:
That could be your thighs pulling the pants down - I have that problem w/ ready-to-wear...pants are hard!!
