Doll Clothes for 18 Inch doll

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I had a fat quarter bundle that was all coordinated and decided to use it for the skirt and top. It was perfect because the fabrics were already coordinated and I just had to pick out which two fabrics to put together for each set. They will receive the same outfits but in different fabrics so they will recognize their doll''s clothes. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Read the instructions and use the tips provided by Nancy Zieman and you will find these very easy to make.

What you will need

  • Cotton fabrics
  • thread
  • rick rack and lace

Q&A with Nana Jo 54

K Lee 2Strings asked:
Oh, my goodness! These are simply adorable! What wonderful Christmas gifts for some very lucky little girls. You are a very special grandmother.
Nana Jo 54 answered:
Thank you. It's fun to make things for them.
Pam Sews asked:
Hope this gets me moving....I got the pattern set from Zieman, too but that's as far as I got.. I can't believe how much work you get done!. It is the perfect Christmas present, just adorable! And four granddaughters - are they redheads like their NanaJo? If any of them inherited that, wow.
Nana Jo 54 answered:
My hair looks red in the photo but it isn't. It was colored in those days to be medium blond but in some light looked red. 2 of the girls have reddish hair though, as does their little brother. The other two have brown hair. All adorable, of course. You will love how easy these outfits are.

I did a similar thing for my two granddaughters the Christmas before last. They had their dolls already but I felt that the clothes were way too expensive to buy so I purchased a couple of doll clothes pattern books by Joan Hinds. I made them each about 30 outfits. I had such a great time doing them that I am still making clothes for them, their friends and anyone else who might want or need something for their 18" doll. It is my new hobby/pastime and I am having a great time collecting all sorts of patterns and ideas online. I hadn't sewn much of anything in years but now I spend all my spare time at the machine. I have so many ideas of things I want to make and all I need is the time to do it. Your outfits look so good. I am interested in doing rain wear and have an old vinyl coat that I bought for myself about 35 years ago. It is brightly coloured and so out of style that it is definitely going to become doll rain wear real soon. Nana Peg

It is a lot, more fun than I expected. I have looked at a couple other books but haven't bought another. I have some velvet and velvetine remnants I plan to make coats from.
