Birds Surplice Dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I have never made a knit dress and it was useful to learn how to put in the elastic around the empire line.

What you will need

  • Cotton jersey with lycra

Q&A with Lynne O

CraftyNHmom asked:
Wow, I love it! I think it looks so cute on you. The bird print is great!
Lynne O answered:
Thanks. I like the birds too. I think I look pregnant in it though :)
PerlenDiva asked:
It's cute. But I think the sides are a tiny bit too low. BTW: I like to pair a long necklace with empire waists to add another focus than my tummy ;-)
Lynne O answered:
Yes, the sides are low, I had to take it in quite a bit too at the sides. I don't think I will make this one again.
evie1203 asked:
:)lovely color:) great print:) sweet:)
Lynne O answered:
It was a really nice colour and print, I wish I had made something else with it now.
deckerston asked:
I like your dress, it's the last pattern for me but, I'm worried about the fit too. I have a full figure and that empire line is tricky. Was your fabric really thin? Seems like the only prints I can find are very thin, hence not so flattering.
Lynne O answered:
Yes, the jersey was quite thin and floaty for this. I think I should have made a size smaller too.
PerlenDiva asked:
I like it on you. You could try wearing an underdress, maybe from a thicker fabric. If you still don't like wearing it, you could recycle the fabric, maybe for a wider jersey skirt? But I hope you "reconcile" ;-)
Lynne O answered:
I know, it drives me crazy when something I make needs to be tweaked. I am going to have another look and see if there is anything I can do with it.
