Alabama Chanin Style Dress

Project Description

What are you most proud of? My hand stitching! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make your item a bit smaller than you think you need - mine came out a bit big because I added on a bit too much and as it is a knit, it tends to "grow". This process is very enjoyable - give it a try!

What you will need

  • cotton jersey
  • pearl cotton thread
  • embroidery floss
  • craft thread
  • Versatex fabric paint
  • glass seed beads
  • Alabama Chanin pattern

Q&A with DaisyandFlorrie

pattiebelle asked:
That came out fantastic. I am going to have to think about stamping some patterns on fabric... I really like that dress shape and fit.
DaisyandFlorrie answered:
thanks so much!
faux nom asked:
What a great idea to use a stamp, and the beading is lovely. The final look is really swanky! I'm curious: it looks like you didn't cut out the stitched shapes, so is this a single layer garment?
DaisyandFlorrie answered:
Thanks! Yes, it's a single layer - my next project will be a double layer. I thought I would start out with an "easy" project! It also gave me a good idea how the cotton jersey from the local fabric store would act.
HellyH asked:
Wow, your dress is fab.

Nice dress. I like your hem with the beads and swing! I think maybe the double layer make it smaller, a little bit more stiff and not so flexible? Or perhaps its all about what jersey You use. My t-shirt in double layers was a little bit smaller than I thought it would bee.
DaisyandFlorrie answered:
Thank you - I think you are right about the double layer making it a little less stretchy - I'll find out when I do my next project. Really love the colors you chose for your shirt.
PSCD asked:
Love, love, love it! It looks beautiful on you and even on the hanger. I like the idea of stamping - never thought of that, but now I will have to try it. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful dress.
DaisyandFlorrie answered:
Thank you, thank you!
