The Simple Satchel was conceived as the second class I started teaching at the that is aimed at novice sewers looking for instant gratification! The Simple Satchel can be made in 3+ hours. Less once you've got the hang of it. The project is also an economical one, as you can simply raid your current stash of fabric and whip one up on the spur of the moment. The hardware is completely optional, as a fixed length strap can be made out of fabric, even. This bag has been a hit through and through, up to being written up in The Guardian, by Karen Ball author of the sewing blog "Did You Make That". This is a feel good project that always makes people smile! Enjoy! SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 8" x 10" x 2"

Supplies Needed

  • 1/2 yard of outer fabric, canvas or similar
  • 1/2 yard of lining, muslin weight
  • 21/4 yards of 11/2" polypropylene webbing

I've been sewing since I was 5, and studied Fashion Design in College. I am a self taught bag designer, and started teaching my craft a few years ago at The Workroom, and this led to demand for the patterns I had created for the class. I also work as a consultant for a number of companies doing product development for textile based goods. I am so thrilled to be able to offer my bags as PDF patterns now. There is a great sense of victory that my students have when completing the classes, and I am happy to share that on a global scale. Feel free to share photos of the bags you've made on my Facebook page, Guy Latulippe (Garment Engineering) All the best, Guy
