You can make this needle book completely out of felt or make a fabric needle book that is all fabric except for the felt pincushion. This needle book not only has a place to put your needles, but a built-in pincushion and pocket too. Use the pocket to hold your thimble, small or folding scissors, and package of needles. Both the felt and the fabric needle books can be made using all hand embroidery stitches. Or if you prefer to use machine embroidery stitches for your fabric needle book you can do that instead. The choice is yours. Either one you choose to make they use small amounts of material. You can even up-cycle an old wool garment for the wool needle book. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY You should know how to do a few basic hand embroidery stitches such as the blanket stitch (although I include some links for this), for making the fabric needle book you should know how to cut and sew to make a bias binding, how to sew on a bias binding, how to sew on a snap SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS About 4.25" x 3" when folded

Supplies Needed

  • You need wool or wool blend felt for the felt needle book and some smaller amounts of felt for the fabric needle book, embroidery floss or # 12 or # 8 perle cotton, small amount of fiberfill stuffing, glue stick, small amount of fusible web if making the fabric needle book, fabric for the fabric needle book (exterior, lining, and scraps for applique), about a #1 size snap
  • Sewing machine if making the fabric needle book, thread for the fabric needle book, hemostat is useful, hand embroidery needle, machine embroidery thread and needle if making the fabric needle book with machine stitches, about a #1 size snap, thimble if you use one
