This pattern produces an 18 inch doll-scale replica of the modern Army Combat Uniform (ACU), the official battle uniform of the United States Army since 2004. To honor the men and women who wear this uniform in real life, we worked to get the details of the doll version exactly right. Just like the real thing, our SHIRT JACKET features a separating zipper and Mandarin collar tab closure, easy-access angled chest and sleeve pockets, a back bellows for mobility, tab closure sleeve cuffs and detachable name/branch/rank and flag patches with recommendations for adding lettering and images to the patches. The PANTS feature a front fly opening, belt loops, easy-access angled above-knee cargo pockets, ankle cargo pockets and drawstring hems. The SHORT SLEEVE T-SHIRT features a lie-flat collar while the HELMET COVER fits snugly and reversibly on a variety of separately purchased helmets. We have even included directions for modifying the helmet cover pattern for a perfect fit on whatever helmet you already own. NOTE: the T-shirt in this pattern is the same as the short sleeve, crew neck T-shirt option in Lee & Pearl Pattern 1001: Unisex T-shirts. The pants in this pattern have a drawstring hem and different pockets than the pants in Lee & Pearl Pattern 1004: "Boy Style" Pants and Cargo Shorts, but are otherwise the same. NOTE: The 1:4 scale replica MultiCam and ACUPAT (digital camo) prints shown in our photos can be purchased in the Lee & Pearl shop at Spoonflower: *** Join the Lee & Pearl community: LIKE us on Facebook (Lee & Pearl); FOLLOW us on Twitter (; JOIN us on Pinterest (; and WATCH us on YouTube ( *** Sign up for our mailing list at, and you'll receive our newsletter full of FREE pattern tweaks, tutorials, crafts and printables. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY The T-shirt and helmet cover are rated EASY while the pants and jacket are rated INTERMEDIATE. As usual, Lee & Pearl(tm) have made things as easy as possible. Even a careful beginner should be able to follow our photo illustrated, step-by-step instructions while using our computer drafted pattern pieces to complete this pattern. A beginner could also omit the pockets and patches on the jacket and pants for a simplified version of the uniform that still closely resembles the real thing. Key construction techniques taught in this pattern include: curved seams, sleeve cap ease adjustments, continuous placket insertion, cargo pockets, professional pocket topstitching and separating zipper insertion - plus a nifty technique to press and turn perfect square corners every time! SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Please be aware that 18 inch dolls can vary significantly in their measurements. These patterns were developed on a Mattel-era American Girl doll, and will fit differently on different dolls.
