Pattern Details

Create a variety of relaxed fit, "plain white T" style shirts for 18 inch dolls — such as the popular American Girl doll — with crew neck and V-neck, long and short sleeve options using Lee & Pearl Pattern 1001: Unisex T-Shirts. This pattern came about after our designer tried to find a relaxed fit, boy-appropriate T-shirt that could be used in a layered outfit. Every unfitted T she tried also featured unfitted sleeves that bunched up and got in the way of jackets or other outer garments. Armed with an understanding of the relationship between the pattern armscye curve and the resulting sleeve cap, our designer knew she could do better. The result is this pattern: uniquely drafted to produce sleeves that fit snugly all the way up to a narrow armhole - ideal for layering under anything you please! As you can see from our photos, the resulting T-shirts look great by themselves as well, either on American Girl dolls or "American boy" customs. With all Lee & Pearl patterns your packet includes computer drafted, fully marked and guaranteed-to-fit-together pattern pieces, as well as step-by-step, photo-illustrated instructions. *** Sign up for our mailing list at www.leeandpearl.com, and you'll receive our newsletter full of FREE pattern tweaks, tutorials, crafts and printables. This is our first multi-size release, which contains patterns drafted for 18” dolls, 16” dolls and 14 1/2” dolls — because we think every child, and every doll, should know the thrill of launching a chemical reaction or spotting a single-cell organism in a drop of pond water! Though the T-shirts are made with stretch fabric, you do NOT need a serger to complete this pattern: directions are included for a straight stitch, standard home sewing machine. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS These patterns were developed on a Mattel-era American Girl doll, and will fit differently on different 18" dolls.

Recommended with this pattern

  • 1/4 yard knit fabric. This garment is easiest to make using a fairly stable knit. You can also cut the pieces from a store bought or repurposed human-size T-shirt. Though iron-on materials and patterns are not included in this package, T-shirts produced with Lee & Pearl(tm) 1001 work great with iron-ons available elsewhere - or motifs you design yourself!
  • Hook-and-loop fastener (such as Velcro) and matching thread
