This is one of the very first bags I ever made and a great carry all tote-shaped purse. I am excited to offer it as my very first bag pattern! I think it is a great project to learn some basic bag making skills including a boxed out bottom, making straps, inserting a magnetic snap and making an open pocket. The pattern comes with paper pieces, written instructions, a photo tutorial and instructions for a variation so you can change up the overall look of the bag. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY If you are interested in this pattern, you should already know a little bit about your machine and how to use it. You will need to be able to piece a paper pattern, and follow written directions with a photo tutorial. You will learn basic bag construction, how to make straps, how to make a boxed out botton and sew into a lining to give a bag structure and strength and how to insert a magnetic snap. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Finished bag measures 13" across the top, 9" across the bottom, 3" deep at the bottom, and about 9" tall.

Recommended with this pattern

  • 3/4 yard of outer fabric, 1/2 yard of inner fabric, 1 yard of Pellon 50 (heavyweight sew-in interfacing), matching thread.
  • Disappearing ink fabric marker, loop turner, 1 piece of plastic canvas grid, seam ripper/sharp scissors, magnetic snap, rotary cutter and mat (optional), large safety pin, hand-sewing needle, DMC or other thread in a color that matches the inner bag, straight pins, tape measure and/or sewer's gauge, iron and ironing board.

I learned to crochet when I was 7 and caught the crafting bug. I have tried everything from knitting to cross-stitch and wood-working to paper crafts, but my love is for sewing. I currently design, make and sell my creations on etsy and I am looking to expand what I do by offering patterns for my designs. I am excited to see how Craftsy can help. :) Visit me at my shop at, my Facebook page at or visit my blog at
