The Lone Star for Mom

Project Description

What are you most proud of? My cutting technique for the diamonds was excellent. I created a film template for the first diamond. The book indicated that I should continue to use the template but I was afraid that slight drift would lead to a less than perfect placement and cut. So, I used the first diamond as the template because it would allow me to find the proper placement on the fabric perfectly. Then I chalked each angle and used the straight edge to cut the diamond. Each cut diamond was perfect. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Get help and advice from someone who has experience in doing this type of quilt. Starch the fabric before cutting (I didn't do this) and use a measured border instead of matching the border to the already pieced block (something else I didn't do). Those who hand stitch quilts might have an easier time than I did.

What you will need

  • 100% Cotton. You need to choose a fabric that has a large design with some empty space in the design in order to get the right effect.

This is simply lovely. For being a fairly new quilter, you accomplished a project many seasoned quiltrs will never tackle. I have been quilting for over 55 years and have only made ONE 'lone star; quilt. I had help from my grandmother, and it was all hand pieced. Needless to say, one was enough for me, and you should feel very proud of your accomplishment!! Keep up the good work!!

Thank you! I feel better now. It was so frustrating to do, since I don't belong to a guild and I pick up tips here or there. Mostly I just read and go for it. Thanks again!
