Squid Hexie Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Mostly the fact I finished a hand-stitched quilt top! I also love how the "water" looks like there is light reflecting off it. This was my second free-motion-quilted quilt... and I was able to try different styles of stitching AND have it all look good together. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't set your expectations too high. Sew every day. Hexies are extremely simple to sew... it just takes time. Take a breathe and just keep on going.

What you will need

  • English paper piecing
  • fabric

Q&A with Gail Lizette

QuiltDude asked:
Absolutely stunningly AWESOME quilt Ramonax. I love, love LOVE this. The colors, the movement, the quilting. I cannot fathom how long it must have taken you, how many hexies and what patience. You put a LOT of work into this and the results... well, I'm jealous of your talent and imagination.
Gail Lizette answered:
Awwwww... thanks QuiltDude! This took from August 2010 to April 2011 to complete... and it's made up of 1,432 3/4" hexies. I absolutely loved the project... so much that I started another! Watch for the Dragon Quilt in a few months!!

I am truly amazed both with your stunning quilt and that you have not had more comments about it! This is truly a work of art. Just beautiful!
Gail Lizette answered:
Thank you!! I'm not a big blogger or an author or a fabric designer... so it's a little tougher to get noticed, but when I do , it makes my day. Thanks :)
