School Colors #1

Project Description

What are you most proud of? For a while I wasn't sure that I was going to like this quilt at all until I thought to add the sashing. That truly saved it for me. The pieced back wasn't planned either. I was just going to toss on a solid piece of the black with white dots, but I had miscalculated and ran short of fabric by just a few inches. I'm glad it happened (in spite of the dizzy spell) because the piecing changed the back into something quite unique and made the quilt reversible. Craftsy classes are wonderful. Though my FMQ is sadly lacking in precision, I have learned so much! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't be afraid to change plans midstream. Oftentimes the forced changes are wonderful improvements on the original plan. If you happen to be a learner, don't give up on FMQ. Keep faith that it will come eventually and use the 10 foot rule so your flaws don't loom so large.

Q&A with K Lee 2Strings

gmhnQuilts asked:
Love this! What is the ten foot rule???
K Lee 2Strings answered:
Stand 10 feet away when looking at the quilt. It's amazing how many flaws disappear. In my case I could just remove my glasses for the same effect. Lol
MurielleLeBlanc asked:
Wow! you did a nice job like usual! You alway chose nice color! Love it!
K Lee 2Strings answered:
Thank you so much. School colors are red and black, so I ddin
rijacks63 asked:
This is a beautiful quilt. Just like Leah Day says, no one is going to examine the quilt to look for all your mistakes anyway. Your grandchildren will love you even more than they already do.
K Lee 2Strings answered:
Thank you and I do hope you're right. I'm pretty sure the grandchildren won't examine the work, so I'm not going to fret about it. I love the relaxed attitudes of the Craftsy instructors! Leah keeps saying , "It's not the end of the world", and I do believe she's absolutely right.
CakeBakerMoney asked:
I agree. We have a couple of quilts my mother in law had made for my sone. They adore it as it is made with love just for them. Very, very special. This is gorgeous. Well done.
K Lee 2Strings answered:
Thank you. I think that using school colors will really give the quilts more meaning to the grand-kiddos now that they are teenagers.
Nana Jo 54 asked:
It's beautiful! I love black, white and red together. It is very striking.
K Lee 2Strings answered:
Thank you! I like the colors, too, but I think it will be awhile before I use them again. My granddaughters quilt in the same colors is now in the process of being quilted and I'm ready to look at some blues or greens or any other of the colors in the rainbow.
