Satin Sample

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I used things that I had laying around. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Have fun! This piece is 7.5" x 9".

What you will need

  • I tried free motion quilting on satin for the first time. The thread is 100WT Invisafil thread. The marking was done with Iron-Out Quilters Pounce and an Iron-Out White Marking Pen.

Q&A with Thread Head

Cindy Needham asked:
Dynamite!!! Wow!!! Congratulations on a spectacular piece :)
Thread Head answered:
Thanks! It was so much fun (and getting addictive!!).
Pam NZ asked:
OMG this is just gorgeous! Great seeing the stencil and how you divided it up and conquered the different sections. The satin fabric gives a luxurious glow to your FMQing, was it difficult to work on?
Thread Head answered:
Thanks! The satin was easier to quilt than I thought it would be (I use quilting gloves). Putting the binding on was difficult - it is slippery and frays.
AzJune asked:
This is a very inspirational piece! I have all of the similar supplies in my sewing room and a similar project is definitely on my "to do" list. What did you use as the backing fabric and batting? Thank you for sharing!
Thread Head answered:
Thanks for the comments!
