  • I re-purposed my first quilted top. It had been at the bottom of a stack that I was hoping to cut up and use some other way. It was perfect as it had some larger sash in solids.

Q&A with Laural Byrd

Pamillia asked:
Your quilt is Beautiful. WOW! Well done. Thank you so much for sharing.
Laural Byrd answered:
Thanks!! It was fun. I've been quilting for abut 6 months and keep getting more brave. Craftsy helps shrink one's learning curve by months. Maybe years.
TerryChase asked:
Gorgeous. Great color combo.
Laural Byrd answered:
Thank you.
Amatricis asked:
Nice! What did you find most difficult?
Laural Byrd answered:
Getting brave enough to take the first stitch and to not be so critical of myself. I can compare it to being a new driver. When you looking straight down the hood your driving is a little choppy. Then you start looking out a head, and pretty soon you realized one day turns and decisions are coming naturally without even thinking about where you're going. Pretty crazy, but it really just takes doing it, for hours.
angelfairy asked:
What kind of thread and weight did you use? Your stitches are so uniform...truly beautiful work. Are you serious, you've only been quilting for about six months?
Laural Byrd answered:
My thread is Gutermann cotton thread. Yeah, i made my first project which was a small grocery bag using a 16 patch front/bag and started doing straight line stitches in December 2011. In February i tried a quilt and did straight line quilting. It was the 'baby quilt for Layla' project posted here on Craftsy. Thanks for the kind words. The encouragement is motivating and glad that I am able to inspire someone to fall in love with quilts/quilting
angelfairy asked:
These colors are absolutely fabulous together. Was it a fabric line or did you pick them out individually? No wonder I follow you!!! :-)
Laural Byrd answered:
This is not from any particular line, but scraps from my stash. I love green and purple. Two of the purples are from Anna Maria Horner: Innocent Crush and Little Folks
