My first quilt..... 84x96 inches

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Finally finishing it. I started the project in June 2010 and finally finished with the binding in Feb. 2012 What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't try doing a huge quilt for your first project - it was almost the death of me, especially the quilting on the machine on the dining room table....

What you will need

  • Large floral pattern for squares
  • repeated on borders - all cottons. First time I tried quilting - instructions were in a class but I don't have the notes for it. All machine quilted by me so not the best job.

Q&A with readingnut

Kaydebee asked:
Very nice. I love the colors. Hard to believe this is a First project.
readingnut answered:
Thank you! I still can't believe I did it....
Robin Batchelor asked:
How did you know how much material to buy of each color so it would work out for the bed top. Is very pretty. Is that a queen. size. I want to do one.
readingnut answered:
I think I found some of the instructions.... Pattern is a 4-patch posie also known as a 4-patch stacked posie. For a twin size the instructions called for "4 repeats of focal fabric with 2 yards extra if you want to use for borders; 1-1/2 yards for sashing, and 1/4 yards for setting stones." The sashing in mine is the white pattern while the stones are the green pattern. I'm not sure how many yards of each I ended up buying (still have some stashes of all). Finished size fits my queen size bed. I can't remember how big my floral squares were (the quilt is tucked away right now) but I'm sure they were about 7-8 inches... Good luck and enjoy!
