Modern Stupendous Stitching #2

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I broke the rules already by using red thread (a no no!) What advice would you give someone starting this project? In hindsight, for a small project like this, I should have just started with one large background. Trying to match the stitching lines in a seam is close to impossible. If this was a quilt, I could have easily gotten around this issue by sashing but I like the interaction of the pattern so I chose to let the lines be where they lay (oh my, what WOULD the quilt police say???) Do I care?

What you will need

  • White cotton fabric
  • Valdani #12 embroidery thread
  • Aurifil #12 cotton thread
  • Essential cotton thread for the quilting and piecing
  • fusible interfacing
  • fusible fleece
  • poly stuffing.

Q&A with Carol Ann Waugh

Boxy asked:
This is beautiful Carol - the detail, gentle colours and texture - well done and a great design. I can see it in red actually - or even the popular grey that some quilters now use. Navy with white, red and yellow would give a real nautical sense.
Carol Ann Waugh answered:
Let me see what you can make! I love your color ideas.
Pupster asked:
I really like this piece. It has such a clean, modern look and the geometric designs look great on the white background. I love your free motion quilting, too. This is a nice direction to take your stupendous stitching!!
Carol Ann Waugh answered:
I'm thinking of working on black next. There are so many choices!
gkJenn asked:
I like this a lot :)! - and it's "up my aisle" as it looks like it is all done by machine :).
Carol Ann Waugh answered:
It is. Go for it!
Beadywoman asked:
Quilt police are NOT allowed! This pillow is great!
