Project

Modern Dresden BOM July #2

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I was surprised to find how easy this was (although mine's got a bit of a corner on it in one place - still practice makes perfect and this WAS my first attempt!). I was a little concerned about the thickness of the finished block and, before I appliqued the disc onto the background I toyed with the idea of cutting out the back of the disc to make it thinner. However, I didn't have the courage to do it, as Amy didn't suggest it, so it's still quite thick. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Choose your colours and patterns carefully. Do look at what other people have posted on the site, as many of them have had excellent and innovative ideas and have made this block look quite spectacular.

What you will need

  • Cotton scraps.

Q&A with patz in suffolk

klh asked:
really like your color selection & placement, lovely!
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you!
Pamillia asked:
Great block, wonderful colors & creation. Well done. Thank you for sharing. :-)
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you, Pamilia - I thought about doing two colours, which would have been okay, then about three, which wouldn't have worked, not being divisible into 20, four seemed to be okay (hope you're impressed with the maths!) and so that was it!
Caraline2 asked:
I didnt do this one either, wasnt interested, but I altered the dresden plate, so I had too different takes on it
patz in suffolk answered:
Good idea! They were both comparatively easy, not having any half-square triangles (the bane of my life at the moment!).
zelda123 asked:
Very nice colors
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you. I didn't start out with any particular theme in mind, but it just sort of evolved with a whole lot of purple scraps and leftovers.
innerwave asked:
Love it! Thanks for sharing.
patz in suffolk answered:
Thank you! The whole quilt was finished some time ago and this is one of my favourite blocks. Thinking of doing ithe whole thing again with a different colour scheme now.
