Q&A with kellyedge

Bonnie Wilson asked:
My favorite print from that collection is the one with the little birds - so cute. Your quilting is awesome. I'm scared to tackle something larger than a table topper because it would break my heart to mess it up. Do you have any hints for free-motion newbies?
kellyedge answered:
Hi Bonnie, I love the bird print as well, it was my favorite. In regard to hints for free motion sewing, here is what I have learned: practice, practice, practice. Also, watch YouTube videos showing people doing free motion stitches. Watch any and all videos you can find. This was how I finally learned how to do it. Something clicked after watching a bunch of vids and I was able to sit down and "scribble" with my thread. One last thing that I recently learned was to sketch out my free motion stitches on graph paper. I then tape the graphed sketch to the base of the lamp on my sewing table so that I can glance up at it as I sew. It has made a huge difference in my stitches. And finally, just have fun. The more you doodle, the better you get. I'm still learning and have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying the process along the way.
