Fall in New York

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I just finished the top! The many hours it took to make it (so far). I still need to quilt it which is causing me anxiety. How I will quilt it will pre-occupy my mind all night. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Spray starch is your friend. Use a 1/4 inch foot. Don't stretch your fabric.

Q&A with Lavender Sencha

Pam NZ asked:
Beautiful, especially love the floral fabric... thanks for giving me more ideas ;-)
Lavender Sencha answered:
Thanks. Any idea for quilting? Since it looked fallish to me I was thinking of doing meandering oak leaves throughout the center. Then today my husband said it looked like fireworks exploding and oak leaves didn't seem to go with his interpretation. Now i don't know what to do.
Peggy Martin asked:
Wonderful work on your New York Beauty! Your fabric choices are really great - everything really works together well - I particularly like how you chose to repeat your setting fabric in the border points. As far as quilting goes, when I have long skinny points and the backgrounds in the arcs I sometimes either quilt in the ditch, or do wiggly lines inside those areas. I think if you want to do oak leaves in the center, that's a great idea, as that fabric has a real organic look to it . Maybe you could combine both your husband's viewpoint with your own and make your quilt be "Fireworks in the Garden"! LOL However you decide to quilt it, it is going to be spectacular!
Lavender Sencha answered:
Thank you so much for your note and quilting ideas. Its made its way back to the project queque. Enjoyed your class very much!!
theoldcrow asked:
Oh my gosh! I want one. This is so very pretty. :)
Lavender Sencha answered:
Thanks. I still have to quilt it - still thinking about the quilting process during the night.
frantan asked:
The swirled layering really caught my eye. You have done a BEAUTIFUL job! I have some similar floral fabric and playing around with several ideas. This one takes the top of my list :)
Lavender Sencha answered:
Thank you Frantan. It still is not quilted. I got side-tracked to the Thread Art class. The fabrics were originally purchased for a mandala quilt (very ambitious) that I never did. Love New York Beauties and have a scrappy one in the works. Can't wait to see your project!
Cuddly Quilter asked:
I just love the fabrics you have chosen and the colours. Beautiful
Lavender Sencha answered:
Why thank you1 Still not quilted, I'm embarrassed to say. I find the quilting part so daunting that I keep letting myself get sidetracked to smaller artsy projects. One of these days....
