Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Skip to my Lou Oven Mitts Link to website or photo www.skiptomylou.org/2008/09/26/oven-mitt-pattern/ What are you most proud of? I love the way these oven mitts turned out! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Super simple, have fun! I bound them the same way you would a quilt, don't make your binding too thin.

What you will need

  • 100% cotton fabric and batting
  • Insulbrite.

GoldClub asked:
Love them! Looks like something I could make. you did a great Job!
tholtz answered:
Thanks GRB! The binding around the wrist can be tricky, it was tight around the free arm on my machine!
Jonni asked:
I need something to get me sitting at the sewing machine again and these look just the thing. I love what you have done and love your fabric too.
tholtz answered:
Thanks Jonni! These oven mitts were very quick and easy to make, I made 2 of them plus the potholder in an afternoonn
cpmcf asked:
Did you use a pattern?

Yes, there is a link to the tutorial under the photo in "Pattern Info".

I just made some this weekend, before seeing you post, and I really struggled with the puckering in the curve of the thumb bit. Even now, after the second attempt I am not pleased with the outcome. What are your tips for getting a smooth curve around the thumb indent.
tholtz answered:
Shorten your stitch length and go slow, this should be applied to all curves, IMHO. Let me know how it works out for you!

The link to the website is in the second bubble at the top of the page, "Skip to My Lou Oven Mitts".
