Easy Jellyroll Star Quilted

What advice would you give someone starting this project? This is just a practice piece, the corners are Kona snow in error, I couldn't tell the difference when piecing in my sewing room.

Q&A with tholtz

JanSew82 asked:
Beautiful stitching!
tholtz answered:
Thanks Jan! I did have some struggles and discovered it's probably better to quilt the middle first as the fabric gets very stiff with all that thread and tends to push back agains the sewing machine arm.
debbiequilter@hotmail.com asked:
Great quilting!
tholtz answered:
Thank you Debbie!
Nita2150 asked:
Lovely, good job!
tholtz answered:
Thanks Nita!
Cindy Needham asked:
What a beautiful block! I love the variety of backgrounds and texture you added...wonderful attention to detail...congratulations! tell me...did you ESS? :)
tholtz answered:
Hi Cindy, no, I did not ESS but I did most. I didn't want definition between the two pieces that make up the outter and innter points of the star, those are the only seams I didn't stitch. What would you have done?
Pam NZ asked:
Wow! Great practice piece! Is this your "floating" Lone Star? Looks amazing!
tholtz answered:
Hi Pam, yes, this is my floating lonestar from the Jellyroll class. Thanks!
