Bird's Landing

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I have always loved watercolor paintings and have tried painting them in the past. This is the first time I achieved a watercolor look and without even trying. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Gloria made the painting of fabric look so easy and it was. She offered straight-forward directions and showed how she goes about painting fabric. I felt very brave after watching the video. In trying to match the photo, I used a little too much paint by accident. I will be more careful next time. Also, I used a piece of plastic taped to a large painter's clipboard (20 x 24). The plastic was not secure enough and I ended up with paint pooling slightly (in a straight line) right in the middle of my sky. I have since covered the clipboard with a piece of white contact paper to make the surface smooth and fixed. That works much better.

Q&A with SewChickie

DonnaDeCourcy asked:
Such soft colours. Are you planning on quilting it to add texture?
SewChickie answered:
I used it as a background for an art quilt I did for Quilt Life magazine American Gothic Contest. The quilt is called "Pass the Chicken Please". I appliqued on top of the piece and did a fair amount of quilting and thread painting to add texture. It was my first attempt at this sort of thing. It is posted on my projects page if you'd like to see the end result.
