Antique Wedding Ring Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I had the energy and knowledge to get it done. It did take three months and I got carpal tunnel after quilting three of these antique quilts. All are posted here on Craftsy. What advice would you give someone starting this project? This is a very detailed and time consuming project. I would never make a DW myself from scratch. I know those who have done it and loved the process. But, I am not that patient so I opted for buying the top and than hand quilting it.

What you will need

  • This antique top was purchased from a shop in WA. I bought some batting and white cotton for the backing. I hand quilted it myself with a huge hoop about two ft wide using long
  • thin needles and top-st thread in white. It took three months to finish. I put deep red binding for a pop of color and I think that works well.

Q&A with linpiration

Red Hen Sewing asked:
It is very pretty. Looks like you did a great job quilting it. I made one about 30 years ago for my daughter's bed and she still has it. It's all hand made from piecing to quilting and it took me a year. But it was worth it. I'm sure you will enjoy it for years to come!
linpiration answered:
Well, I can't say that is the case here. I did not do it myself like you did. I wish I could say that I did but it was done by someone else and if I said I did it, well......no use to go on. I do love it but it's my fave. I may be giving it to our youngest newly married daughter living in OH and it would be nice on those warmer nights. They use a down in the winter.....any wonder? Thanks for you kind comments.
