Pattern Details

There's No Such Thing As Dragons Quilt uses a really fun technique to make the dragons. Each of the dragons is created by cutting the top two layers of the quilt to reveal the underlying fabric. It's like when you were a little kid and took lots of different colored crayons and covered a page with color. Then you took the black crayon and covered over the colors. The really fun part was scratching out the black to make a picture from the hidden colors underneath. Now that we are grownups, we have a fancy name for this process, reverse applique, but the fun is the same. There's No Such Thing As Dragons Quilt uses 4 layers of fabric. You pin the layers together, mark the dragon pattern, sew and then carefully cut the layers to make the dragons. This is a quilt as you go project so as you sew the dragons you create a stitched copy of the dragon on the back of the quilt. The applique and the quilting are done at the same time. The binding is a shortcut method where the edges are sewn all around and then clipped to fringe. Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible. There are numbered steps and photographs to guide you. The pattern pieces are full size designed to be printed from standard computer paper. There are 8 helpful photographs in this pattern. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 41 x 34 inches (104 x 87 cm)
