Start growing your spring tulips now! Spring Tulips Table Topper is an original quilt pattern for an octagonal table topper and four placemats. The tulip petals and leaves have folded curved bias edges and "float" due to the turned-back bias edges, but there is no curved piecing. Choose two coordinating fabrics for the tulip centre and side petals. The background fabric should not have a large or a directional print because it is cut and sewn on various angles. This pattern does not use applique, paper piecing or curved piecing. It is quick to construct and makes a wonderful hostess gift. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Intermediate quilting skills including an accurate scant 1/4" seam. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Topper 19 1/2" in diameter 4 Placemats 12" x 17"

Supplies Needed

  • 1 1/4 yd or 1.2 m background
  • 1/4 yd / .2 m / 1 fat quarter tulip centre fabric
  • 1/2 yd or .4 m coordinating fabric for tulip side petals

Hi! I am Janet Barker from Calgary, AB. I have been quilting for 16 years and have been designing my own quilt patterns for about 9 years. At the request of my guild, I started publishing my patterns in 2011. My pattern testers, customers and students have been very happy with their results using my new patterns. I love seeing another quilter's version of my designs! My patterns often incorporate completely original blocks, or at the very least new twists on standard blocks. In addition to standard piecing, I have three other types of designs - folded back bias curves (sometimes called Cathedral Windows curves), geometrics using "grout", and tessellations. So far I have not incorporated curved piecing or applique, but that may come! I have an engineering degree and am a retired geophysicist; perhaps that is why I love the geometry of quilting! I hope that you will enjoy stitching up some of my designs. Visit me on Facebook at Wholesale inquiries welcome.
