Dr. Seuss has always been, and will always be, one of my favorite authors. In fact, I started collecting his books in high school and saving them for my own child one day (a child that came 4 years after high school ended, yes I lugged these books around for a long time!). Once my son was able to read on his own, these books became his favorite too. So when a line of Dr. Seuss fabrics came out, I knew I had to buy it, no matter what. In fact it was the first time I had bought an entire line of fabrics. These fabrics have created many a quilt for me and my family, but when I posted this particular one on my blog, it soon became one of my most popular posts. I am always getting Google hits to the basic post, so I thought I would turn the quilt into a pattern. The original quilt now resides with the cutest little boy you have ever seen in Australia. I made it for a friend from work who was returning there and she was pregnant at the time she was leaving. Since we didn't know the sex, I knew that Dr. Seuss would be a hit no matter what. And it was, and still is, loved by him. He is now turning 3 months old and gets lots of tummy time on this wonderful quilt (as my friend tells me through Facebook). I hope that others enjoy this quilt as much as my friend's baby has. Even if you are not lucky enough to have this line of fabrics, this pattern is a great one for using any line with a panel, patterns for those seem hard to find without being just square in squares. It would also be a great way to show off your favorite line, even if there is no panel, as the large blocks really accentuate the wonderful prints. My pattern does not include instructions for finishing off the quilt, but the internet is awash with wonderful tutorials for this. I have a great binding tutorial on my own blog that has served me well for many a quilt: If you are unsure of how to sandwich a quilt though, please feel free to contact me through my blog and I would be happy to guide you in the right direction! Happy quilting! Rachel Scrapendipity Designs BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY You should already know how to use a rotary cutter and sewing machine. You should already know how to finish a quilt by sandwiching, quilting, and binding as this pattern is for making the quilt top only. I started quilting in high school when my grandma helped me with a senior project, but my true passion for quilting did not start until about 5 years ago. There is just something to be said about the fact that if I need a new blanket, something warm, something small, something big, something for a picnic ... I can make it myself. I love that feeling and nothing makes me happier than seeing my quilts in use. Love them, abuse them, wear them out .... my quilts are meant for everyday use.
